Zac Beven

Over the past year, I have extended my painting practice into installation with an emphasis on experience-making. My practice stems from an interest in the sublime, which I believe can be hinted at through multisensory experience. I use traditional oil painting, light, and sound in an attempt to create rooms of feeling, searching for such opportunities.

My work revolves around scenes of youth culture, parties and their aftermath. I believe this is the new sublime, that the bigness of it all is not in the ceilings of the Renaissance or the grandeur of nature but in small moments that make us all feel inherently human.
