Through the use of a multi-modal installation, I explore ideas of movement and currents. The installation features a collection of low-quality photographic prints, in conjunction with a sculpture made from dyed latex rubber hose. The prints were photographed using a Nokia 6230i, with the intention of producing as low-quality a photo as possible. The latex rubber hose was dyed and stretched through the space, extending from the prints and existing at various elevations across their length. The use of these methods allows for the exploration of movement and currents to occur. The printing of low-quality photographs at a large scale pushes the viewer away, as when they are viewed up close, the image pixelates. The use of the latex rubber hose provides a similar effect, as the audience organically follows the wire throughout the space, enticed by the journey of uncovering the path of the latex rubber hose.
Currents exist everywhere and are determined by both the mobile and immobile things in a space. The currents that flow throughout my installation are consciously shaped to both encourage and disallow movement when viewing.
Most importantly, it's all free.
