Shannon Syme

My work embodies dichotomies such as the infinitesimal and the infinite, interior and exterior, chaos and order, however the aim is to occupy a space in and around and within these binaries. I am trying to translate the experience of the between. To me, what it feels like to be in the universe is overwhelming; of constantly being pushed and pulled between the microscopic and the macroscopic; of oscillating so fast between extremes that it becomes like a vibration. I am interested in ‘mapping’ this phenomenon through my art. I make drawings and immersive installations constituting a system of different marks and forms that both offer familiarity and imbue entropy. Enacting inexhaustible viewing points and potential associations, the works are designed to evoke the different interconnected layers of our reality.
