Ruby Dawson

My work is about the joy of intuitive making. I heavily focus on design and aesthetics, by embracing “superficial” elements of making in my practice, I have learnt that prioritizing the visual allows me to tap into an un-articulatable language of colour, gesture, shape and direction, particularly to do with the material qualities of drawing. I am also interested in preliminary ideas of making, such as the first approach to composition we adopt as a child in our drawings. I explore how this is subconsciously in adult artistic endeavours. I prioritize play and intuition when making, this keeps my practice regenerative.
