Mia Heinen
In my practice, I explore the architecture and design of the commercial kitchen; its relationship to modernism and diversion from the home kitchen. Separated from the cosy dining of the restaurant, the commercial kitchen acts as an invisible factory behind double swing doors. My stainless steel kinetic sculptures take the hidden frenzied mechanical whir of the kitchen into the public realm. I play with the notion of form following function, utilising intentional chaos to undermine the decorum of the restaurant.
