Catherine Paris Panagiotakopoulos
I strive to capture my artistic expression of the female gaze through the lens of my camera. My artwork comprises 32 photographs exploring the body’s relationship to sensuality and self-inflicted harm, depicting DIY BDSM using metal welding tools, piercings, home job tattoos, bodily fluids, and the body’s binding to offer an experience of self-induced pain and self-offering to document a life so depraved that you seek pleasure through pain to satisfy every desire, creating purpose to a bland existence in a world of identical beings striving for individuality. My artistic practice involves photographing a subject in an encompassing position with different objects and bindings, intentionally avoiding their identity to capture their body’s response. My work reflects depravity and sexuality that glorifies pain to display one’s sickening addiction. My photographs have no beginning or end; they are a documentation of self-inflicted torture evoked from depravity that is valuable to expressing sexuality.
