Each of Caitlinn Foordโs paintings is an attempt to capture the feeling of an ineffable phenomenological encounter. In her painting practice, the artist methodically applies numerous layers of oil paint to the canvas, generating the retraction and diffusion of light and creating surfaces that appear to vibrate and illuminate. Colour theory, optics, the history of painting, literature and theories of sublimity are referred to regularly. The archetypal circle is employed as a compositional starting point and then sculpted by the brush in an intuitive painting process.
