Babette Emery
In my work I attempt to re-think in-between sites through the application of philosophical interrogations of bodily transgressions and the abject. I explore the excesses, dirt and openness which characterise such spaces and their unsettling of one's awareness of bodily flows and desires. Motivated by post-structuralist and feminist philosophy and psychoanalysis, I articulate webs of connectivity and intimacy through a process of intimate manipulation, testing and relinquishing control over my materials. By engaging intimately with the forms that are found and grow upon surfaces, I aim to extract ambiguous bodies and traces that emphasise the becomings and differences of uncertain sites. My work resides in a realm of fluidity, openness and transformation that I map onto and through the world.
