Amanda Brass
Amanda Brass began the Graduate Certificate in Visual Art in pursuit of finding her artist practice, uncovering a fascination with the body, female experience, identity, memory, time, and chance.
With a background in graphic design and communication, she sees the value and impact of the simple whilst taking an approach rooted in psychology to develop her ideas and art-making.
The translation from the idea into aesthetic is experienced through a mix of media such as digital combined with more traditional practices of drawing, painting, and craftwork. Introducing personal archival images and using passed-down craft techniques in her art allows her to explore themes of memories, history, family, identity, and the body.
Clothing and craft techniques build sculptures and installations allowing the uncanny and unexpected to be seen in her work. In contrast, Brass also uses technology in interesting ways through the manipulation of images and drawings to create AI-generated landscapes, characters, and videos to tell stories and create new narratives.
